About Ristikkotupa
Ristikkotupa means “the crossword cottage” in Finnish. A tupa is the main room of an old farmhouse: the room with the big stove, where people ate, worked and, on long evenings, sat together over a newspaper puzzle. This site tries to be a quiet room like that for word games.
What you find here
Six word games — Word Search, Letter Wheel, Hidden Word, Word Ladder, Anagrams and Fill-In — each with three levels, forty numbered puzzles and a new puzzle every day. The site speaks English, Italian, Hungarian and Finnish, and every language has its own word lists and its own on-screen keyboard.
There are no ads, no accounts and no tracking. Your progress is kept in your own browser.
How the puzzles are made
The puzzles are generated by a puzzle engine with rules that are checked, not hoped for: every word of a word search appears exactly once, every fill-in has exactly one solution, the par of a word ladder is the true shortest path, and every anagram has a single answer. A numbered puzzle is built the same way every time, so number 12 is the same puzzle for every player of the same language.
Word lists and licences
The word lists were built from open sources, adapted and filtered for these games: offensive words, names and abbreviations were removed. They are available under the same licences as their sources.
