Who keeps the stove burning
Every word game in this cottage is free to open and free to finish; no game here wants a sign-up first. The firewood still has a price, though: the domain, the server, and the long hours spent sifting the word lists of four languages. This page says plainly where that money comes from, so you can hold it up against what you see.
Labelled spaces for adverts
On the cottage’s reading pages — the front room, the shelf of numbered puzzles, the rule pages and the guides — a few boxes are set aside for adverts. Each box wears the label Advertisement, so it can never be mistaken for a clue or a button.
The boxes are meant for Google AdSense, and the wiring for it is being done now. Until that work is finished, each box holds a little card of ours that points back here.
A sponsor for a game
Now and then a firm could lend its name to one of the cottage’s games or to a run of its puzzles — a month of word ladders, say. That support appears in its own box, marked Sponsored by and the sponsor’s name, beside the text and never on the board. Sponsors have no say over words, answers or difficulty.
Things the cottage refuses
- Adverts on a board, or covering its buttons and keys.
- Paid help of any sort: no bought hints, extra tries or shortcuts.
- Selling, or simply handing over, what visitors do here.
- Pop-up windows that jump between you and the letters.
